Favorite Drumset

The majority of people who visit this blog will be individuals interested in the art of drumming. Now, I have dedicated half of my life to this craft so I know a thing or two about high-quality percussion products. To be honest, when people ask me what brands I like to use, I don't always know exactly how to respond. Every product is made with different purpose and a different approach to the drum. With that said of course, the first question that almost every drummer will ask one another is...What's your favorite drum set? For me personally, I could answer this question in my sleep, but let me explain what this question actually means first.

A drum set is a complex machine consisting of nuts, bolts, screws, levers, springs, chrome, wood, and various metal, that work together to serve the function of a rhythmic tool for the ensemble. This machine provides the pulse to every song, or otherwise referred to as the heartbeat. Without the heartbeat in a song, most production will die. There would be no driving force in the song, and what's left is a bunch of melodic notes with no direction or meaning. I am explaining this to you, because you need to understand the role the drum set plays within the ensemble to understand the importance of choosing your tools. A craftsman is only as good as the tools he uses. With that said, I am not suggesting you go out and buy the most expensive drum set when you are just starting out. There is nothing wrong with beginning your drumming career on a more inexpensive starter kit. In fact...I ADVISE to do so. It will save you money early on, and once you do become more experienced, purchasing the kit you know you want after having practiced and understood your personal preferences will make the it all the more meaningful to you.

Now, back to the original question I had proposed: What's your favorite drum set? And to respond, I would undoubtedly respond by saying The Yamaha Stage Custom - Birch Wood Series. This was my second kit, and after tearing apart my first, cheap one, I fell in love immediately. Therefore, I had to recommend this product to you today. Let me tell you why exactly...

The color schemes associated with this particular kit are unlike anything you have ever seen before. Whether you want something flashier, or a kit with a color fade, or something that just looks plain mean, this would be my recommendation. Aesthetically, the Yamaha Stage Custom Series just outshines all the others in it's class with the customization options at your disposal. The Stage Custom also comes with easily adjustable tom-racks that were strategically designed to work as the most convenient physical setup possible for the drummer's stick movement. This was only able to be achieved through extensive research by Yamaha's R&D department, where millions of dollars were invested to determine the specifications for the most well-rounded drum set. In addition, this drum set comes with strong, durable cases. And when I say durable...I mean it! I have toured for months with this drum set being lugged around in the back seat of my Jeep Grand Cherokee, going through snow and rain, and not once did I damage a single piece of my equipment. The tom, bass, and snare cases easily fit around the drums in a secure manner and Yamaha also provides a rolling dock that is meant to store your cymbals and stands. I have used these cases for the past nine years without an issue and my equipment still looks good-as-new!

Moving on, the Yamaha Stage Custom Series is my favorite for a few other important reasons as well. It is a great kit to perform in front of an audience with. The drums are made with birch wood, and the sounds resonate very deeply from deep within them. I also like the chrome on these drum sets much more than the Yamaha SFZ snare drums they have made. It looks very sharp and catches the audiences eye, as well holding up over the long-term. In addition, this particular drum set comes with a pedal that puts the "kick", in the kick-drum. The pedal that comes with the Yamaha Stage Custom Series is a starters’ pedal, but it is also highly versatile with user-friendly adjustment options. The rebound from the kick-drum with this given pedal is a controlled reaction, but highly forceful. I can feel every bit of energy that goes into my bass drum rhythm when I perform with this kit, which I find incredibly useful when I am trying to 'feel' the music. For me personally, this concept begins with feeling completely comfortable with your kick-drum, mostly because it literally sends your vibrations and energy into the earth.

I have had my Yamaha Stage Custom Series for about nine years, so there is a lot of reasons why I love this product. To summarize, it's a great first kit to begin your professional drumming career with. It also produces terrific sounds, while being aesthetically beautiful. It also comes with easy-to-use portable cases that will defend the kit for all it's worth. Not to mention that the kit is very durable, and it sends a strong message to audience members with the chrome finish. I can’t stress how great the kick-drum feels because it empowers you as a drummer, allowing you to truly feel the music. At the end of the day, for an average price of $650 dollars for the original, 3-tom, birch wood series...you really are getting among the best values for a drum set on the market. It will do everything you need it to, and it will look phenomenal on stage! I can assure you that this kit is a possession you will WANT to take pride in.

So if you are looking for your first real drum set, I personally recommend looking into the Yamaha Stage Custom Series.
